Hi, I just received 3.5.8. Looks great.
I'm confused about how Auto Update works.
What I found out (I think):
- When Auto Udating collections is enabled: all collections you open, update automatically.
- When you hit the 'Stop auto updating this collection' button, this specific collection won't auto update anymore until you close it. When you reopen it, it will auto-update again.
So far, so good. Although: I would prefer that you could switch Auto update permanently on/off for individual collections.
I don't understand how the 'Click on update sets Active' switch works. I lost two collections by switching it On and then clicking on Update in a collection.
Could you give me an example of how it works, please?
Thank you for your explanation. I think I understand. I'll play with it to get the grip.
Hey René! Apologies for the confusion!
Auto updating collections has been around for a while and the behavior you described is correct - when you click a collection to open it, the window where the collection was opened is assigned to this collection and any changes in this window will update the collection as well.
The new option of 'Click on update sets Active' (confusing name, I know) adds the option, if you have a window open and you want to replace all tabs in a collection with this current window, you can click update (this is not new, this is the behavior when auto update is turned off as well). the option only adds that when you click update it will make the collection 'active' and automatically sync changes from this window to your collection.
So if you have an old collection with tabs A, B, C
And a window open to tabs D, E, F
clicking update will replace the tabs in the collection to be D, E, F
When the 'Click on update sets Active' option is on, any changes to this window (like if you add tab G or remove tab E) will update the collection as well.
Hope this helps!
